Data from the first batch of results  from a  new pilot study examining youth attitudes towards emigration in Derry have revealed "frightening" results. Lack of employment opportunities accounts for the overwhelming reason why young people want to leave Derry. 124 young people of varying backgrounds from right across the city took part and an overwhelming 95% don't see themselves staying in Derry long term. The study will now move into schools, colleges, training and youth organisations to help map the employment, study and social needs of local young people. Youth worker and Independent Cllr Darren O'Reilly described the study as a way t o get a better understanding of how many young people are leaving and why they would like to leave. Community worker Kat Healy said the reason for doing the research was because mass youth migration was "a phenomenon in discussions we were having with young people from right across the region."

Vandals smashed over a dozen windows at the offices of a support group which provides vital services for hundreds of republican ex-POWs in the Moor over the weekend. Sinn Fein representatives have condemned the attack on Tar Abhaile Repairing the damage at the Tar Abhaile office could be substantial, costing hundreds, if not thousands, of pounds, as the glass windows need to be replaced. The incident in  West End Park  was condemned by Sinn Fein representatives, Sean McMonagle who works with Tar Abhaile, and The Moor district Councillor Colly Kelly. Sean McMonagle described the vandals as "idiots, criminals and hoods" and questioned whether the attack may have been deliberately timed following Thursday's election. The police are appealing for information and encourage people to call 101 quoting the reference number 741, or to contact Crimestroppers anonymously by telephoning 0800 555 111.

Supporters, residents and club directors are taking part in a protest walk to the Brandywell. Local residents and supporters of Derry City Football Club will take to the streets before tomorrow night's match to protest against attacks on visiting fans. The move comes following the attack on Dundalk fans last week by a mob as a supporters' bus left the Brandywell Stadium after Derry lost 2-1 in the FAI Cup semi-final replay. A teenage Dundalk fan needed medical attention after he was hit on the head with a bottle during the attack, which is said to have been carried out by local youths. Club directors will join the symbolic march which will leave from outside Mailey’s Bar at 7.15 pm, going from Lecky Road to the Brandywell before the Premiership tie against Bohemians.

A woman was hit by a car in the Waterside early this morning. The PSNI are appealing to a woman who was hit by a car in Derry early this morning to contact them immediately. The woman was struck by the vehicle on Duke street at around 4am, however according to a witness she got up and ran away. A police spokesperson has said they want to make sure the woman is not seriously injured and have asked for her to contact them on 101.

Former Derry City winger Arthur 'Mousey' Brady has died aged 88. Former Derry City winger Arthur 'Mousey' Brady has passed away at the age of 88. Affectionately referred to as 'Mousey', tributes have been pouring in on the sad news of his death. A member of the Candystripes team that won the Irish Cup in 1954, he played a key role in the 1-0 victory against Glentoran. He is predeceased by his wife, Joan, and survived by his sons Colin, Martin and Paschal.

Locals in Gobnascale have called it an ‘attack on the community’ Firefighters tackled a blaze at Immaculate Conception College (formerly St Brecan’s) early this morning after a suspected arson attack occurred. The gym hall at the former school, which closed in June last year, was engulfed in flames as up to 25 firefighters attended the scene at around 5am. Despite demolition work beginning in May, this is just the latest report in a long list of incidents of anti-social behaviour on the site of the old school. Police are treating the incident as deliberate and an investigation is now underway.
